Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA)
Issue
Addressing the need for improved inspection accuracy and efficiency in the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA), Welltek initiated a project integrating advanced IoT solutions from PantoInspect and Voestalpine. By installing trackside systems for digitalized pantograph and hot box inspections in Qidu, New Taipei City, TRA’s ability to detect faults would be significantly enhanced.
Project
Project Requirements
By proposing installing two trackside systems that could digitalize pantograph and hot box inspections in Qidu, New Taipei City, we would improve TRA’s ability to check for faults.
Project Plan
Welltek addressed TRA’s need for improved inspection accuracy and efficiency by integrating advanced IoT solutions from PantoInspect and Voestalpine into a single project. By installing trackside systems in Qidu, New Taipei City, capable of digitalizing pantograph and hot box inspections, TRA’s fault detection capabilities would be enhanced.

A Bridge Connecting
Stakeholder
Our work to install the systems’ components would impact three units within TRA (Rolling Stock, Signaling, and Overhead Lines). Each had their concerns over disruption and the reliability of the new equipment. Throughout the installation, we acted as a bridge between these stakeholders. We leveraged our reputation and working relationship with TRA to build trust and communicate with each unit to complete the project together.
Follow-Up Services and
Maintenance
Well-rounded training is crucial to realizing all the benefits of this newly installed equipment. While the systems collected huge amounts of data on rolling stocks’ axle bearings and pantographs, methods to utilize information were not established. Over the subsequent five years, Welltek guided TRA by providing maintenance for the monitoring system and training staff how to use it. By effectively acting upon the data collected, we have facilitated TRA’s transition from conditional to preventative maintenance. This effort significantly improved maintenance procedures and upheld the reputation of Voestalpine and PantoInspect’s products in Taiwan.
